Writing versus looking for subscribers
Do you have posts waiting in the wings until you get more subscribers? Post them now!
You have a few posts up and have some ideas about the next ones.
Should continue writing or go looking for subscribers?
The answer is, obviously do both.
However, in the long run, the more important thing is to
figure out what you’re about
write down all of your ideas so you can generate more
keep writing
We can think about it through three different angles :
From your development’s point of view
From a potential subscriber’s point of view
From substack’s point of view
Let’s take a look:
From your development’s point of view
Only by continuing to write will you figure out what you’re about and what you’re trying to create in this world.
As you write down your ideas, you’ll develop more ideas.
You’ll have to dig deeper in what you are trying to communicate so that you can continue writing.
So yes, go look for new subscribers.
But keep on writing!
Think of it from a potential subscriber’s point of view
They land on your publication and see that you have a few posts and maybe one that catches their eye.
Or…
They land on your publication and see that you have a bunch of posts some of which they want to read right away.
It’s going to be much better for them (and thus for you) if you have a good amount of posts ready for someone to “binge” on.
And the way to do that is not to save your posts for when you have more subscribers.
The way to do that is to posts all of your thoughts now so that when a potential subscriber arrives at your publication, you already have a large amount of the “good stuff” waiting for them.
Think of it from Substack’s point of view
Substack wants to see that you are engaging and engaged with their platform.
If they see that you are committed and that you are delivering value (not just subscriber numbers) then they are more likely move you up the leaderboard lists.
Substack wants to see lots of posts because it means there are more opportunities for someone to run into your writing, like it, and then become a subscriber.
Keep writing
So you can see that from three different angles, if you have posts waiting in the wings until you get more subscribers, you should write them now.
What to try next
If you have even half of an idea, try writing it out. Don’t wait until it’s fleshed out and don’t wait until you have more subscribers. Write it and send it out.
Try it out and let me now how it goes!
Good luck :)
Until next time!
All the best,
Sebastian
