Sending a Substack post out and updating it after
What happens if you send out a post to your Substack subscribers and then update it after
After sending out your latest awesome Substack post you find a few spelling errors after it’s gone out.
The bad news:
Your subscribers will receive your post and there’s not way to fix it.
The good news:
You can go back in and edit a published post whenever you like.
Not only that, it won’t automatically send out a new email to your subscribers.
So you can do multiple edits after it’s been sent out and when people look at the post in the future, they’ll see the most up-to-date fixed version.
If you feel a bit weird about updating your post, you can always put a footnote at the bottom of the post explaining what you updated and when. This will make you look very thorough and thoughtful and let people know that sometimes posts are updated.
How to actually update the post:
Go into your dashboard (click on the button that looks like the one below)
Then click on the three dots “…” by your posts title
Then click on the “Edit post” option at the top of the dropdown menu
This will take you into your post and it’ll be in “Draft status”
When you do your edits, you’ll then see the following at the top right of the page:
Click on the update button.
You can see that I am updating the post from a few days ago.
Notice the “Update now” button.
Press that button and you’re done.
It will take you back to your post page with the updates that you just made.
What to try next
Look at one of your old posts and go into it and add a word somewhere in it. This will give you practice and the know-how of how to update posts and get you comfortable with how Substack currently works.
Try it out and let me now how it goes!
Good luck :)
Until next time!
All the best,
Sebastian
