Put the first "Subscribe button" in your post here
How maximize the chance of someone subscribing to your Substack publication with your first "Subscribe" button
You just finished writing a post and now you have to add the “Subscriber” buttons.
Put it too early and it doesn’t give people a chance to get into your writing.
Put it too late and people may be too invested in what they are reading to take a break to subscribe to your Substack publication.
Finding the right place in your post will help you maximize the chance of someone subscribing to your newsletter.
Put the Subscription button right after the first emotional hook.
Here’s what that means and why you want to do it.
The First Emotional Moment
Your post will have an opening section whether you are writing fiction or non-fiction.
This is where you will work on hooking the reader into reading the rest of your post.
If the hook doesn’t work, the reader will leave and they definitely won’t subscribe.
If the hook does works, then the reader will continue reading and may subscribe.
So this is the best moment to try to get them to subscribe to your writing.
You’ve had a small win (they’re going to read more) so try to get them to become a subscriber at the exact moment they have committed to reading more of your writing.
Ask for the sale
Think of it like getting a foot in the door. As soon as they decide to continue reading your post past the opening section, they’ve shown that they are interested in what you have to write.
So “ask for the sale” and add in the Subscription button.
What to try on your next post
So the next time you write a Substack post, figure out where your initial emotional moment that hooks the reader into reading more is and then add your first Subscribe button there.
Try it out and let me now how it goes!
Good luck :)
Until next time!
All the best,
Sebastian
