Offer a service to speed up the Substack Money Progression
Offering a service makes it possible to speed up Substack Money Progression
You want to grow how much money you’re making on Substack.
But it’s a slow progress while you figure out how to grow the publication and get more paid subscribers.
It’s also very hard to write a viral post.
Think about offering a service to speed things up
While it’s great to imagine that subscribers will pay for your thoughts (and thoughts alone), it can take a very (very) long time to build up a large-enough audience.
What you can do however, is to think of the people who have subscribed to your Substack as potential leads for a service you can offer them off of Substack.
By offering them a service you can learn more about the issues your subscribers are facing and get a bump in money sooner than later.
Which means you can bump up how much money you are making “off of” Substack without having to wait for your paid subscriber numbers to grow.
Offer a very small service
Trying to offer a service doesn’t mean you have to come up with a whole new product or service.
It could be as small as checking in to where someone is and what progress they are making.
Be a listening partner to someone.
As an example, let’s say your Substack offers a specific service for women and you have a few subscribers.
You could offer a 15 minute phone call to hear where people are and how they are feeling about things in your specific area: health, wellness, mental wellness, etc.
What if you charged $10 for this 15 minute call.
Do you think someone would take you up on it?
Probably.
Yes, it way less than you probably charge for hour for your service, but it’s probably in line with what you were thinking of charging your monthly subscribers.
Earn to Learn
Let’s say you get 2 people on the phone a month.
My guess is that you’ll get way more value learning about what’s on their mind than the money they paid you.
You’ll come away with specific pain points they have and specific language that they use to describe the issues they have and the dreams they are pursuing.
You can then turn around and use what you learn to write in your Substack to help other people.
Which then increases the value you are giving to your audience.
Which makes it more likely that someone else might become a subscriber and maybe even a paid subscriber.
What to try next
Think about 3 potential very small services you could offer to a subscriber.
Maybe it’s doing a writing exercise with them or having a listening check-in phone call with them or it’s doing a small plan for their week with your advice thrown in or something else.
The goal is to come up with something that’s small enough that you’d be willing to try to see what happens if you offer it to your subscribers.
Try it out and let me now how it goes!
Good luck :)
Until next time!
All the best,
Sebastian
